Forty of Victoria’s highest achieving VCE students have accepted offers for scholarships to study at the University of Melbourne next year under the Chancellor’s Scholars Program.

The Melbourne National Scholarships offered as part of the program provides students with a HECS-exempt Commonwealth Supported Place in one of the University’s undergraduate degrees and a $5000 annual allowance for the duration of their degrees.

Recipients receive a guarantee of entry into the graduate course of their choice.

Scholars from interstate also receive a HECS-exempt place as well as an annual allowance of $10,000 over the duration of their degrees.

Congratulating the new scholars, Vice-Chancellor Professor Glyn Davis says the University would provide these successful young achievers with a world-class education.

“I am delighted to welcome these outstanding students and look forward to them joining the University community in 2015. No doubt they will be inspired and challenged by the University’s academic environment but, in turn, their presence will enrich our academic community.

“The University is committed to providing one of Australia’s largest and most comprehensive scholarship programs, and with a guaranteed pathway into the graduate programs of their choice, the students offered scholarships today are set to be well prepared for their future professional direction,” Professor Davis says.

Students who achieve an ATAR or equivalent of 99.9 or above are eligible, as are Bachelor of Music students who achieve an ATAR or equivalent off 99.85 or above, and Indigenous students who achieve an ATAR of 90.00 or above.

This year, the University was ranked number one in Australia for the fifth year in a row in the 2014 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
