New keyboard on the block

Volume 7 Number 4 April 11 - May 8 2011

The Dutch master harpsichord maker Cornelis Bom recently delivered a brand new Ruckers harpsichord to the Melbourne Conservatorium’s Early Music Studio. This harpsichord is the 199th instrument Cornelis Bom has made in over a half-century career of outstanding workmanship.

Bom instruments are owned and played by harpsichordists around the world and are housed in some of the world’s most distinguished musical institutions, such as the Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory.

The Conservatorium of Music celebrated with a concert attended by Mr Bom featuring performances by harpsichordists Elizabeth Anderson, Calvin Bowman, David Macfarlane, Ann Murphy, Donald Nicolson and John O’Donnell, and featuring music by Bach, Froberger, Muffat, Weckmann, Kerll, Couperin, and Bohm.
