Melbourne on the Australian Olympic team

Volume 8 Number 6 June 11 - July 8 2012

Melbourne University students, alumni and sports club members are well represented on the Australian teams for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Many of them have represented Australia on several occasions. By Katherine Smith.

Among those who have been selected are Olympic legends and emerging sports stars, many of whom have nurtured their sporting talents and interests through Melbourne University Sport’s facilities and coaching staff.

University Provost Professor Margaret Sheil says just ‘making the Olympic team’ is an incredible achievement.

“Educating the whole person involves academic as well as physical and cultural activities, and I’m thrilled to see so many of our Melbourne sportsmen and women included on the Olympic team. We’ll watch their progress through the Games and look forward to hearing about their experiences when they return.”
