Thirty-nine of Victoria’s highest achieving 2012 VCE students have accepted offers for scholarships under the Chancellor’s Scholars Program to study at the University of Melbourne this year. By David Scott

The Melbourne National Scholarship offered as part of the program provides students with a HECS-exempt Commonwealth Supported Place in one of the University’s undergraduate degrees and a $5000 annual allowance for the duration of their study.

Recipients also receive a guarantee of entry into the graduate course of their choice.

The scholarships were offered to students who received an ATAR or equivalent of 99.9 or above.

Four Indigenous students have also accepted scholarships to the University.

Congratulating the new scholars, University of Melbourne Provost Professor Margaret Sheil said the University was honored to offer these outstanding young achievers a world-class education and have them study alongside some of the best and brightest students.

“The scholarships will enable them to access a broad range of experiences here at the University such as a guaranteed pathway to graduate school, which will help them become exceptionally prepared for the workplace,” she said.

The University of Melbourne is ranked number one in Australia and 28 in the world, according to the 2012 Times Higher Education rankings. The University also offered three of the top five most sought-after courses according to preference results.
