Music for the people
In 1932 Sidney Myer established a trust fund at the University of Melbourne to provide a permanent series of free concerts for the public. Originally given under the direction of the University’s Ormond Professor of Music, today the concerts are given by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
The University’s long-standing tradition of musical excellence is highlighted through the talents of the performers including internationally renowned Melbourne University alumnus, Ben Northey, who will conduct two of the forthcoming Sidney Myer Free Concerts.
Soprano Siobhan Stagg, also a University alumna, will sing from Mozart’s La Clemenza di Tito, and one of Australia’s leading composers, Brenton Broadstock, is featured with a performance of his work Federation Flourish.
